TLCGIS Privacy Statement

This privacy statement describes how information is collected and used by visitors to the Tallahassee-Leon County GIS (TLCGIS) website and its affiliated applications, including web mapping applications. This privacy statement applies to this site and any of the affiliated applications managed by the TLCGIS Division. This privacy statement does not apply to links provided to external sites or standard infrastructure platforms hosted by our third-party GIS vendors (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Online), and the privacy statements from those respective sites would need to be referenced. This statement was last reviewed on July 9, 2026, and may be updated periodically.

By using the services and interactive mapping applications provided by TLCGIS, the user agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Leon County, the TLCGIS Division, and anyone involved in storing, retrieving, or displaying this information for any damage of any type that may be caused by retrieving this information over the Internet or relying on the spatial accuracy of the data provided.

Public Records

Note that information provided through online means becomes public records and is subject to the same access requirements as if submitted on paper.

Information Collected and How It Is Used

The TLCGIS website and applications utilize server logs, log analysis tools, and application cookies to create summary statistics about website use. These statistics are used to assess which mapping layers or tools are most of interest to users, determine technical design specifications, and identify system performance issues or problem areas. When accessing TLCGIS applications, the web server automatically recognizes only the Internet domain and IP address from which you accessed the site. This information does not result in the identification of your personal email address or other personal information. Information is gathered regarding the volume and timing of access by collecting the date, time, pages visited, and generalized application settings (such as maintaining your map extent or saving recent search history). This is done to improve the performance and content of the mapping applications. This information is not shared with outside marketing organizations. Only aggregate information is collected, and personal information is not identified.

Online GIS Transactions and User Accounts

For online transactions, custom map requests, or secure applications conducted through TLCGIS (including signing into an organizational ArcGIS account), you will be asked to enter certain information about yourself and/or the organization with which you are affiliated. Whenever personal information is requested from you on this site, there will be an indication of whether your disclosure of such information is mandatory or optional.

Information collected in the course of using these applications is used for the following purposes:


  • To manage user accounts and application preferences (e.g., saved maps, extents, or layer settings).
  • To conduct online transactions or process data/map requests with the appropriate government entities.
  • To send you transactional emails confirming an account creation, application access, or service request.

The Personally Identifiable Information we collect when you use our site(s) or sign into secure GIS portals may include:

  • Mailing address(es)
  • Phone number(s)
  • Email address(es)
  • Organization or Employer
  • Login names and passwords (mailing list)
