The Tallahassee-Leon Geographic Information Systems Department is a joint inter-local agency formed in 1990 between the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, City of Tallahassee, and the Leon County Property Appraiser's Office. Funding for this effort is divided equally with the program's partners, with the Property Appraiser's Office providing property mapping information and services.
The structure of TLCGIS is based on an Executive Team, Steering Committee, and Development Team. The TLCGIS Program Coordinator leads a group of dedicated and talented professionals which forms what is referred to as 'GIS Central'. GIS Central provides support services to the inter-local users as a whole and to each of the principal partner entities. It also has the responsibility of developing and maintaining the base map (series of high-accuracy data layers referenced to a real-world coordinate system for which other data is referenced upon).
Some of those services include:
- ⚬ Spatial Analysis
- ⚬ Database design, creation and Management
- ⚬ Automation (of data processing)
- ⚬ Data development and maintenance
- ⚬ Application development
- ⚬ GIS Integration into other business systems
