Abstract: Provides locations of upland forest communities that have native or high quality characteristics.
Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.
Provides locations of upland forest communities that have native or high quality characteristics.
To fulfill the objective of the Conservation Element of the Tallahassee Leon County Comprehensive Plan to map conservation and preservation features. Additionally, to provide data to the public at a large scale (parcel specific).
The information depicted in this GIS layer is the result of digital analyses performed on a database consisting of information from a variety of governmental and other credible sources. The accuracy of the information presented is limited to the collective accuracy of the database on the date of the analysis. The information is believed accurate and reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of the data. However, TLC/GIS expressly disclaims responsibility for damages or liability that may arise from use of this data. This product is the property of Tallahassee/Leon County GIS and its use is thereby restricted.

Data set has been visually inspected. All data produced strives to meet National Mapping Accuracy Standards (NMAS).
Geographic features were derived from digital and hardcopy aerial photos ranging in years from 1937-2006.
Hardcopy aerial photos from 1937-1996 were reviewed to identify areas that had been continually forested. Polygons were then heads-up digitized in the GIS based on interpretation of signatures visually identified on the aerials (1994 DOQ, 1996 DOP). Forests identified on USGS Quadrangle Maps in 1988 by Leon County and the City of Tallahassee were also checked against the 1994 and 1996 aerials and digitized where applicable. Limited ground truthing was then conducted. Updates were digitized based on more recent aerials (1999 DOQ, 2001 DOP, 2005 DOP, and 2006 DOP). Additional polygons have been digitized based on identifications of forests during the site plan review process. Due to limited abilities to identify forest conditions based on visual interpretations of aerial photographs, as well limited access to sites this dataset is considered incomplete. Additionally, the boundaries delineated are estimates and are not the result of survey. The data should be used as a tool and should not be relied upon as the sole source of site information. Site specific surveys and confirmation with City or County staff biologists are necessary to determine forest presence, type, and quality.
